Refund & Cancellation Policy
Last updated: September 5, 2026
1. Who sells Plus
Paid UpKorean Plus subscriptions are sold at checkout by Paddle as the merchant of record. Paddle processes the payment, issues receipts, and handles many tax obligations on the transaction. UpKorean operates the learning product and unlocks Plus features when Paddle confirms an active subscription.
Paddle’s Checkout Buyer Terms and Paddle’s refund / withdrawal process also apply. Nothing on this page limits mandatory consumer rights in your country of residence.
2. Plans, price & renewals
Plus is a recurring subscription (not a one-time pass):
- Monthly: $11.99 USD, billed every month until you cancel.
- Annual: $79.99 USD, billed every year until you cancel.
Listed prices are tax-inclusive (the amount you pay). Checkout may show a tax breakdown inside that total. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel before renewal.
3. Cancel anytime (stop future charges)
You can stop the next renewal at any time — this is the main control for monthly and annual plans:
- Use the manage subscription / buyer portal link in Paddle’s receipt or subscription emails, or
- Email hello@upkorean.com from your account email and we will point you to the correct Paddle cancel path.
After you cancel, you keep Plus until the end of the period you already paid for. Then the account returns to Free (Hangul + cafe, daily speak cap). Cancel ≠ automatic refund of the current period.
4. Statutory cooling-off / withdrawal (by region)
Some places give consumers a short window to withdraw from a distance purchase. That window is not the same everywhere, and digital / online services often have special rules once access starts. Paddle (as seller of record) handles statutory withdrawal and refunds under its buyer terms and local law.
- EU / EEA / UK (Paddle buyer terms): Consumers generally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase. Paddle’s terms say you get a full refund of charges paid unless, during that period, you started downloading, streaming, using, or benefiting from the product after agreeing at checkout that Paddle may make it available before the withdrawal period ends. Recent EU case law also treats many dynamic online subscriptions as digital services (stronger cooling-off) rather than one-shot “digital content.” If you live in the EU/EEA/UK, follow Paddle’s withdrawal / refund path for your country.
- South Korea (전자상거래법 제17조 — desk summary): Consumers often have 7 days from receiving contract details (or from supply starting, if later) to withdraw from a distance contract. However, withdrawal can be restricted once supply of a service or digital content has begun, if the seller clearly disclosed that and (for digital content) took required steps such as trial access. UpKorean’s permanent Free tier (Hangul + cafe, capped speaking) is our trial-before-pay path. If you live in Korea and believe a 7-day right still applies to your Plus purchase, contact us and/or Paddle with your receipt.
- United States / Canada: There is no general federal (US) “7-day online refund” for digital subscriptions like Plus. Cancel anytime to stop renewal. State/provincial rules and card-network disputes still apply. Billing errors and failed access are handled under §5.
If mandatory law in your country gives you a stronger right than this page, that law wins. We will not use this page to take away a right you already have.
5. Goodwill refunds & abuse
Outside statutory withdrawal (and outside clear billing errors / paid but no Plus access), refunds are not automatic. We may help escalate a refund with Paddle when appropriate. We may decline repeated pay → refund cycles that look like fee abuse. Paddle may retain original processing fees on refunds — that is their MoR fee model, not a reason to grant unlimited goodwill refunds.
We do not promise partial refunds for unused time on an annual plan as a default. Cases are reviewed individually (billing errors, service failure, mandatory consumer rights).
To request help: email hello@upkorean.com and/or Paddle buyer support with your receipt email and approximate purchase time.
6. Chargebacks
Please contact us or Paddle before filing a card chargeback when possible — we can often resolve access or billing issues faster. Unresolved chargebacks may lead to account suspension.
7. Free tier
Hangul and cafe practice on Free do not require payment. Speak limits on Free are product limits, not a billed feature. Try Free before buying Plus when you can.
